U
Urinary frequency (in pregnancy)
You will notice during pregnancy that you will be urinating more frequently. The increased urge to urinate is typically most noticeable during the first three months, before your uterus grows higher out of your pelvis, uterine pressure on even and empty bladder may trigger the urge to go. You can diminish this urge somewhat by emptying your bladder as thoroughly as possible when you do urinate.
Urinary Infections
A urinary tract infection, also known as a bladder infection is a bacterial infection that may infect any part of the urinary tract. These infections are easily treated with antibiotics. Some symptoms of urinary infections are:
- Urgent desire to empty the bladder
- Frequent urination
- Burning or pain during urination
- Bladder spasms
- The feeling of having to urinate even though little or no urine actually comes out
- Cloudy, bloody or foul-smelling urine
- Mild fever
Even though antibiotics fight the urinary infection straight off, they don’t work immediately on all of the symptoms. If you need pain medication along with the antibiotic, your doctor can prescribe some for you. It is also extremely important to remember to drink lots of water and even cranberry juice that is 100% juice. There are some ways that you can prevent urinary infections from occurring:
- Women should wipe from front to back
- Go to the bathroom to empty your bladder frequently
- Don’t hold urine for long periods of time
- Urinate right after having sex
- Drink six to eight glasses of water a day
If you believe that you may have a urinary tract infection, seek medical advice immediately.
Urticaria
Urticaria is a highly rare disease which occurs when there are excessive amounts of mast cells in your skin and appears as hives when it is irritated. Most people are diagnosed as infants with urticaria. They appear when the skin of the baby is rubbed and the excessive amount of mast cells cause the hives. The mast cells will produce a high amount of histamine which causes the allergic reaction. There are some things that can worsen the effects of urticaria:
- Emotional stress
- Heat or friction
- Bacterial toxins
- Alcohol
- Narcotics
- Aspirin
- Sulfa drugs
Unfortunately, there is no known cure for urticaria. Your doctor may prescribe antihistamines to lessen the symptoms. Also, you can avoid the irritants and triggers once you get a complete diagnosis from your doctor.
