Vomiting
Almost all babies bring up some milk along with the air. Usually the amount is very little. There are many reasons for infants spitting up some milk:
- Baby took in too much milk in a flat position
- Too much bouncing after a feeding
- Formula fed babies take in more air than breast fed babies
Try to position your baby upright during feedings. Also, avoid bouncing or jiggling after feedings. If she it vomiting and there are also signs of fever or diarrhoea, there may be something else going on in your baby’s system that require medical attention. If you think that your baby is projectile vomiting, this may also be a sign for concern as it is an indicator of other possible problems such as reflux. Some signs of projectile vomiting are:
- If your baby vomits at the end of a feeding with such force that it hits the floor as much as three feet away
- If your baby does this consistently after every feeding
Varicose veins
Varicose veins are just another of the many side effects of being pregnant. The hormones of pregnancy relax the muscular walls of your veins, causing them to enlarge. These vessels need to expand to accommodate the extra blood volume of pregnancy. The legs are particularly likely to host varicose veins, because the expanding uterus presses on the major blood to pool in the legs. But veins enlarge all over: you may notice little knots in the bulging veins along the sides of your neck or even along your vulva. These are due to the normal accumulation of extra blood in and near the veins’ valves. Piles are also a type of enlarged vein. Whether or not you develop varicose veins during pregnancy is mostly a matter of heredity. There are some ways to lessen the appearance and the annoyance of varicose veins:
- Avoid standing or sitting for long periods of time
- Don’t cross your legs while sitting
- Elevate your feet as high as possible when you sit
- Wear loose-fitting clothing
- Wear support hose
Do not knead or vigorously massage varicose veins, as this could cause further damage to the veins and might even cause a blood clot.
