Babies are very delicate creatures and every parent should take care of their babies so they would not experience health and other problems later on. New parents particularly mothers should know the basics of taking care of the health of their babies even if they are too busy with other things. Taking care of the health of babies is really just a matter of logic like too much or too little of anything will be unhealthy to babies and to anyone for that matter. Here are ten tips on how to better take care of the health of your babies:
1. Keep yourself healthy while still pregnant. Many women keep fussing about how to keep their babies healthy but they failed to see that keeping their bodies healthy and in top shape during pregnancy will have a very big influence on their baby’s health later on. Women who smoke during pregnancy will most likely give birth to babies with bronchial or pulmonary diseases as a result of a weakened lung 2. Encourage your babies to eat vegetables from birth. Of course newly born babies could not really eat vegetables and other solids yet as they will be on a strictly milk diet for a long time. However, when they start eating solids like when they get a year old then you should encourage them to eat healthy. This tip need not cost you much. Get some carrots or squash and mash them up. Babies will learn to love eating these vegetables if they grew up seeing them in their plates and in yours as well. 3. Know how to properly burp your babies. Burping is an essential part of keeping a newborn healthy. Burping gets rid of unnecessary gas in the stomach. Of course there is always the problem of colic no matter how you keep burping your baby. Colic is in no way caused by careless parents it just comes naturally for most babies. There are babies who are more susceptible to getting colic and parent should not worry too much about this because it is really not harmful to your baby although he may get the tendency to cry for long periods because of colic. 4. Sleeping with your baby may just be the best solution to avoid asphyxiation among babies. Most people discourage co-sleeping between mothers and babies. However a mother’s instinct can work better if her baby is by her side especially when sleeping. A mother can easily feel the movements of her baby even while she is sleeping and it will be easier for her to respond to what the baby needs at night time. However co sleeping also entails a lot of responsibility like a mother should always be careful not to smother her baby with pillows, blankets and even her own body. 5. It is mortal sin to leave baby alone and unattended with a bottle in his mouth. This is the fault committed by ignorant mothers or caregivers who leave babies unattended in their cribs with milk bottles on their mouth. Babies and babies and they can choke from their own milk. Another danger here is that milk can seep in from the bottle through their ears causing severe ear problems for the baby. 6. Avoid exposing your babies to chemicals and smoke. Asthma has become widespread causing severe health problems for babies all over the world. Mothers can keep their babies healthy by keeping them away from cigarette smoke and other allergens that may cause asthma. It would be worth every cent to install an air cleaner in the entire house just to make sure the baby is inhaling clean and purified air. 7. Keep cockroaches away from children! Cockroaches are very sturdy creatures and they are touted to be the only creatures on earth that can survive a nuclear explosion! These creatures are also very dirty and constant exposure to cockroaches can develop pulmonary and allergy problems for your babies. 8. Avoid sun exposure. The skin of a baby is very sensitive and it would be worth your while to avoid exposing him to the sun too much. Of course the early morning sunlight that is not yet so piercing to the skin can be healthy and can give a baby that healthy glow. However sunlight after ten in the morning and before three in the afternoon can be burning to the skin. If getting babies under the sun is unavoidable then protect them by using sunblocks. Toddlers who are already fond of swimming should also be kept away from the sun or if this is impossible then apply sunblock on their skin. 9. Talk to your doctor about the required immunization shots for your baby. Babies should be immunized from bacteria and other diseases that can be prevented like polio, DPT, hepatitis A and B, measles, Pertussis, Pneumococcal and a lot of other childhood diseases. There are health centres offering free vaccinations for babies so if money is a problem you better look for these centres. 10. Avoid giving medicines to your baby at the first sign of colds or fever. Some mothers panic at a mere 37.5 degree Centigrade fever and immediately give their babies fever medicine. Most doctors recommend that babies who get slight fevers should not be given medicines immediately. Natural remedies like water and fresh fruit juice can do the trick. Babies who are four months old or younger should be taken to the doctor immediately when they show signs of sickness. Babies are a big responsibility and mothers should work twice as hard to keep their babies safe. Mothers should read up a lot on health magazines and books and they should also ask their doctors about the dos and don’ts of keeping baby healthy.
