Top 10 Tips for Mothers to Be
Being a mother may just be the most difficult task that a woman will have to face in her entire life.  Imagine carrying a life in your womb for almost months and then bringing him out into this world either by normal or caesarian delivery.  And it does not end there.  You also have to sustain him until he is old enough to fend for himself. If you think that becoming a mother is an easy task then you might want to think it over.  Mothers to be have a lot of responsibility in their hands and they have to be prepared for the different challenges associated with motherhood.  Here are tips that may be useful for mothers to be.

1. Keep yourself fit and healthy.  Pregnancy can be one of the most wonderful things that can happen to a woman.  However no pregnancy is ever easy so a mother to be should keep herself healthy.  There are many challenges facing a   mother to be both emotionally and physically and so she must keep herself fit and healthy to be able to survive these challenges.

2. Folic acid can be your ally so take folic acid every day.  Folic acid can do a lot to keep the pregnancy and the baby healthy.  Women who take in enough folic acid before they get pregnant and even during pregnancy can look forward to healthier babies.  Taking in folic acid regularly can also prevent birth defects and other illnesses. Folic acid is naturally present in food like liver and other fruits and vegetables.  A woman can also take regular folic acid supplement to meet the daily requirement of no less than 400 micrograms of this vitamin everyday.

3. Avoid alcohol consumption.  Too much alcohol is never safe for any person.  A pregnant woman should avoid alcoholic drinks at any rate because it can result to birth defects and other life-long problems for the baby like abnormalities and behavioral problems.

4. Go to an OB gynecologist as soon as you suspect you are pregnant.  Monthly pre natal care can minimize birth defects and can make pregnancy easier and healthier.  A medical expert can provide the necessary healthcare and reassurance to mothers to be about the condition of her pregnancy and her baby.

5. Smoking is taboo.  Smoking before pregnancy can already affect the woman’s health.  Smoking during pregnancy can result to dire consequences to both mother and child.   Also keep away from second hand smoke as it can also cause more damage to both of you.  Exposing your baby to cigarette smoke can affect his lungs and can lessen his chances of survival and of having a healthy body later on.

6. Breastfeed your baby.  Breastfeeding can help you lessen your expenses on milk but most importantly it will keep your baby healthy.  Mothers to be should read up on the benefits of breastfeeding.  There is still no substitute for mother’s milk as this can prevent infections, lactose intolerance and other illnesses.

7. Buy comfortable clothing for your baby.  Enjoy your pregnancy by window shopping for baby clothes and toys.  Buy the necessary baby clothing like three to five pairs of mittens, diapers, baby hats to keep him warm, baby towels, and matching pajamas.  Buy clothing wears that have snaps so they can be easily put on and removed.  But never overdo your shopping and bear in mind that babies grow up fast so keep the number of clothing wear at a minimum per size.

8. Prepare the baby’s room and make sure you child-proof your home.  Babies should be protected from harm both inside and outside the home.  Watch out for possible injuries that may be caused to the baby and child-proof your home even before the baby is born.  Buy covers for electricity outlets, get door stoppers and make sure the oven is located in an area not easily reachable by the baby.

9.  Choose a trusted and reliable pediatrician.  The pediatrician will already assist in the delivery process and he will be called on by the OB gynecology as soon as the baby is born.  It is better if you choose a pediatrician before giving birth instead of having someone else choose your pediatrician for you.  Having the same pediatrician from the time the baby is born is better because he will know the condition of the baby and can provide him with the necessary health care even as he grows up.

10. Spend ME time as well as time with your husband before the baby is born.  Believe me this will be the last time you will enjoy watching a movie by yourself or with your husband without having to worry about another being.  Watch all the movies you want and take leisure walks with your husband.  Spend quality time together because soon there will be an addition to your family and both your time will be spent caring and taking care of the baby.

Mothers to be have a challenging life ahead of them so they should prepare themselves for this occasion called childbirth.  Their responsibilities start the moment they decide to get pregnant so they should take care of themselves and their babies as well.
