You Just Gave Birth to a Toddler! |
By Trish
According to my own calculations, I should have been due some time in late
August, but the ultrasounds showed that I was due September 14.
I delivered Emma on September 23, 2004. I kept complaining to everyone that it
really hurt every time she would move in utero in the month before her birth! I
would be in tears because she felt like she was still in my ribs, pushing on my
girlie bits and punching her fist right through my belly button, but the doctor
kept saying that it was all normal. I am 5 feet, 6 inches, and I was enormous!
I was induced in the wee hours of the 23rd, and after some rather unpleasant
things, I wound up having to have a Cesarean section. The baby's head was
engaged, and so there was a lot of pulling, and the anesthesiologist had to hold
me down while two doctors pulled and pulled, and finally with a big pop came our
darling daughter!
The doctor laughed and said, "Look! You just gave birth to a toddler!" I didn't
understand at first because everyone was bustling about and saying, "Weigh her!
Weigh her!" And the final number? 11 pounds, 8 ounces, 23 1/2 inches long, and
perfectly healthy! And, no, I had no family history of big babies, and no
gestational diabetes! Just one big baby!
Emma is now 21 months old, and she is going to be a big sister! Hoping this one
is healthy, but maybe slightly smaller!
